She needs to find a better group to hang with. It's simply not true, taking the entire universe of attorneys.

Of all of the keys to success, the power of association is among the greatest. You gotta run with people who do things bigger, better, bolder and faster than you do, to get better. You gotta ditch Eeyore (and it sounds like your acquaintance runs with Eeyore.)

If you are going to start a new practice area, the BEST thing you could do is find a mentor and go hang out with him/her for a week or two. No one ever does this but it is the surest, fastest way to success in a new area.

From personal experience, I have found that coming in contact with good referrers really makes me want to help them. As a result, I give serious thought to not only who might be interested in their services or product, but also who I know that is also a good referrer that they should meet.

I love knowing other attorneys who can help my clients get what they need efficiently and effectively. My clients are happy because of the great service they get, I'm happy because I can concentrate on the issues that are my niche while knowing the other issues are being handled, and the other attorney is happy because they have business. It's a win-win-win situation.
